When working remotely is a part of your travel plans, it's important to loosely schedule your time so emails and editing don't overtake your vacation days. On our last trip to Bali, we partnered with The Origin Collection to create content for two of their properties - Origin Ubud and Origin Seminyak. We were excited about their team and the opportunity to photograph their space, so we set aside two days of our trip for work.
We made our way to Seminyak after spending four days in the jungles of Ubud. Origin Seminyak is one of The Origin Collection's newest properties. It's nestled in a desirable location, just steps away from the beach and Bali’s most fashionable and vibrant neighborhood that's filled with a multitude of restaurants, boutiques and iconic beach clubs. It was the ideal "home-base" for our Seminyak stay. Our villa featured a large, open air living and dining area overlooking the pool and garden with the master bedroom and ensuite on the upper floor. The villa was also equipped with a private gym and kitchen space.
When we arrived, the concierge showed us around the villa, served welcome drinks and brought us floaties for the pool. They were extremely attentive and provided helpful recommendations for seeing Seminyak.
We spent our first afternoon photographing the villa. Every detail is thoughtfully designed and Origin has done a lovely job of curating local products to enhance your stay. The villa served coffee from Titik Temu, a local coffee shop. Our host recommended we visit their Seminyak location if we needed a makeshift office and we were not disappointed! Their coffee and food menu was incredible and the location featured ample space for working - It was the perfect place to do a little editing.
When we visit a new place, we like to walk as much as possible. There's something special about wandering through a city and stumbling upon a cute cafe or little shop. Seminyak is a wonderful place to wander. The main streets are lined with restaurants and boutiques and the beach is just a few blocks away. After an afternoon of work, we walked along the ocean and cut back through town, stopping for dinner at Batik, which quickly became a favorite.
Shopping at Yoli & Otis If you tire of afternoons spent poolside and evening walks on the beach, there are many day trip options. We hired a driver to take us to Canggu for a self-guided food tour. We like to think we're spoiled for options at home in Portland, Oregon, but nothing compares to the countless restaurants in Canggu! A few of our favorite Canggu Restaurants: For a "Bali Brunch": Crate Cafe, Nook For a light lunch: Sensorium For drinks before dinner: The Slow For a delicious dinner and great atmosphere: Synkonah If you want to go out after dinner, Potato Head Beach Club was recently renovated and features a lovely menu and swim up bar - Bring your bathing suit!
Our flight home left at 11 PM, so we decided to seize the day and take a boat trip to Nusa Penida. The island is small and crowded, but the breathtaking beaches and snorkeling made the trip worthwhile. When we arrived on the island, we hired a driver to tour us around. We made four stops and caught the 5 PM boat back.
